From Crumbling Classrooms to a Place Children Are Proud to Learn

When our team first visited Kakunguu School, the classrooms were crumbling, the compound lacked clean water, and children were learning in conditions that made it hard for them to dream of a better future.

Today, that story has changed. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and donors across the world, Kakunguu School now has rebuilt classrooms, a reliable water source, and a learning environment children are proud to walk into every morning.

This transformation did not happen overnight. It took every monthly sponsorship, every one-time gift, and every volunteer who showed up to help build — brick by brick, meal by meal, child by child.

"We used to worry about the roof leaking when it rained," says one of the teachers at Kakunguu. "Now our biggest worry is making sure every child gets to read their favorite book before the bell rings."

The children themselves notice the difference most. Attendance has improved. Teachers report that students are more engaged, more confident, and more hopeful about what their education can lead to.

None of this would be possible without the Home Network of Africa community — the sponsors who commit $45 a month to a specific child, the donors who give toward Build, Sponsor, and Donate projects, and the volunteers who travel to serve alongside our team.

If you have been sponsoring a child or giving toward our school projects, thank you. You are not just funding a building — you are restoring dignity, protecting childhood, and opening doors to a future every child deserves.

There is still more work ahead. Several of our partner schools need the same transformation Kakunguu received. Will you be part of the next story of change?
